• interRAI Summer Program for International Research (inSPIRe)

    19-26 January 2027 | Auckland, New Zealand

The University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand, will be hosting the interRAI Summer Program for International Research (inSPIRe) in January 2027.

Many attendees from past inSPIRe events have become productive members and leaders within interRAI and health/research more broadly. inSPIRe is a critical function for the future of the network and was last held at McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada in 2024.

We are now ready to accept applications for the 2027 New Zealand event. Please encourage trainees (PhD and post-doctoral) and early career researchers, clinician scientists, and health care leaders to apply. All applications must include a letter of support from a current interRAI fellow. Please ensure you obtain this letter prior to completing the application as your application cannot proceed without a support letter.

For New Zealand applicants, kindly contact one of our interRAI fellows directly for the support letter.

The call for applications will close on 31st March 20265pm New Zealand time (UTC +13).

We expect to host no more than 20-25 attendees. Final selections will be made by a committee based on fit with the program, and alignment with strategic objectives for interRAI. We are interested to focus the program on new research methods using interRAI, self-reported assessments and related technologies, equity, and integration with health informatics (e.g., HL7 FHIR, SNOMED, etc.). All topics and systems (seniors/geriatrics, mental health, child and youth) are welcome.

Purpose of inSPIRe

To bring together promising interRAI oriented research trainees (PhD, and post-doctoral), junior clinician scientists, junior scientist, and junior health care leaders to:

  • Interact and grow relationships within the interRAI network,

  • Learn skills and broaden their understanding,

  • Strategically mentor junior colleagues who have the potential to become productive interRAI fellows.

Aotearoa New Zealand

In Aotearoa New Zealand, the national interRAI dataset—comprising anonymised, aggregated assessments stored in a central data warehouse—is a powerful resource for research and policy, enabling analysis of population health trends, service quality, frailty, multimorbidity and outcomes over time. The NZ interRAI Research Network brings together academics, clinicians and sector partners to collaborate on projects that use these data to inform evidence-based improvements in clinical care, service delivery, and health policy, and a national research agenda has been developed to prioritise work such as improving assessment processes, data linkage and upholding Indigenous data sovereignty.
